Yerevan's Charles Aznavour Square has a different meaning today: the statue of the chansonnier not only completes the square's appearance but also brings a new breath and spirit to Yerevan, with the sounds of "La Bohème" and incessant applause.

At the initiative of the Mayor of Yerevan, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great artist in 2024, a competition for sketch designs of the statue of Aznavour was announced, in which the project authored by sculptor David Minasyan was recognized as the winner by the vote of the competition committee.

For the first time, the city undertook the full financing of such an initiative, allocating about 85 million drams.

"Today, in Charles Aznavour Square, we are unveiling a statue that symbolizes not only the memory of the great artist, but also the participation of the Armenian people in world cultural life. More than a thousand songs, films, and concerts in more than 90 countries. "He was the man whose name was known without the need for translation and long explanations, simply because he was Aznavour. He was the man whose art to this day requires no explanation, no need for translation. This place will become a place of meeting and remembrance, both for the people of Yerevan and for thousands of our guests from around the world, a place where one can meet the legendary Charles Aznavour again," noted Mayor Tigran Avinyan during the ceremonial unveiling of the statue.
