Israel's Security Council approves plan to capture Gaza City

Israel's Security Council has approved a plan to crush the Palestinian radical Islamist movement Hamas and take control of Gaza City. This was reported on August 8 by the AP and Reuters agencies.

The decision was made after a night-long meeting of senior Israeli officials, despite international calls to stop the war and protests from many Israeli residents who fear for the fate of hostages held by Hamas.

Earlier, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu outlined several plans in an interview with Fox News, announcing that Israel intends to take control of the entire Gaza Strip. The Israeli military already controls about three-quarters of the enclave.
