28 of the 78 flood victims are children

The death toll from devastating floods in Texas has risen to at least 78, including 28 children.

The search for girls missing from a summer camp continued, while fears of further flooding prompted the evacuation of volunteer rescue workers.

President Donald Trump offered his condolences to the families of the victims and said he would likely visit the area on Friday. He said his administration had been in touch with Governor Abbott.

“It’s a terrible thing to happen, absolutely terrible. We say, God bless all those who have suffered so much, and God bless the state of Texas,” he told reporters as he left New Jersey.
