US lifts sanctions against Russia that hindered Paks II nuclear power plant project

The United States has lifted sanctions against Russia that had been preventing the construction of the Paks-2 nuclear power plant in Hungary as part of the Rosatom project, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Péter Szijjarto announced.

He recalled that in November 2024, the administration of then-US President Joe Biden imposed sanctions on Gazprombank, through which the Paks-2 nuclear power plant project was financed.

“Fortunately, since January, the White House in Washington has had a president [Donald Trump] who considers Hungary a friend. On this basis, the US government has lifted sanctions on investments in the Paks nuclear power plant,” Szijjarto said in his statement broadcast on M1 TV.
