Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth said the US strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities were "historically successful" and had "deeply damaged" Iran's nuclear program. He outlined the details of the operation at a press conference on June 26, criticizing the media for what he described as "distorted" coverage of the strikes.
Hegseth said the Israeli Atomic Energy Agency had said the US strikes had indeed rendered Iran's enrichment facilities "inoperable." The head of the UN nuclear watchdog, Rafael Grossi, also said Iran's nuclear program had suffered "enormous damage." The CIA also said Iran's nuclear program had "seriously suffered."
Hegseth added that the strikes, which were carried out under the direction of President Donald Trump, were "the most sophisticated and covert military operation in history."
