According to the final text of the NATO summit in The Hague, the leaders of the alliance member states committed to investing 5% of their GDP annually by 2035 in defense and security-related spending "to meet our individual and collective commitments."
The declaration contains 5 points.
In the document, the 32 NATO member states reaffirmed their strong commitment to support Ukraine, emphasizing that Ukraine's security contributes to the security of the entire alliance. According to the declaration, direct investments in Ukraine's defense and defense industry will be counted towards the defense spending of allies for this purpose.
According to the Telegraph, the decision not to mention the war in Ukraine was made at President Donald Trump's request in exchange for reaffirming NATO's Article 5 mutual defense obligation.
"We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the principle of collective defense, enshrined in Article 5 of the Washington Treaty: an attack on one is an attack on all," the statement said.
However, the document contains a separate clause on "the long-term threat posed by Russia to Euro-Atlantic security."
