Israel has partially achieved the goals declared at the start of this operation, and Iran's nuclear and missile infrastructures have been significantly damaged. Iranologist Armen Petrosyan told Radar Armenia.
"With the support of the US, significant damage has been caused to key nuclear facilities located in the cities of Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, but at the same time, Iran's retaliatory missile strikes against Israel and actions against US military bases have provided an opportunity to save Israel's and, to a certain extent, Iran's face, both in front of its public and, especially, in the region," Petrosyan noted.
According to him, the key question here is whether the ceasefire will be lasting.
"It is related to Israel's plans: will it use this ceasefire as a temporary measure to recover, restore its armaments and other infrastructure, and continue its attack on Iran, or does it simply assess at this moment that its capabilities are limited, and an operation to achieve more (the ultimate goal, regime change) is not possible at this moment. It isn't easy to say. Of course, in recent days, certain manageable stability within Iran has contributed to Israel and its allies putting the steps towards regime change on the back burner for the moment, postponing the steps towards regime change, which is the ultimate goal of all this."
According to the Iranologist, considering the results of this latest operation, it was obvious that these steps were aimed at saving Iran's face. Further developments, in particular, the statements made by the US President, showed that it is also possible that these chain steps are steps aimed at ensuring a ceasefire process and creating a situation acceptable to everyone.
Armen Petrosyan mentions two possible scenarios for further developments:
"First, the continuation, strengthening of the ceasefire and confirmation of its results during the negotiations that were interrupted before the Israeli attack; that is, negotiations between Iran and the United States. The second, of course, will be a negotiation process or not, or in parallel with it, after a certain time, after Israel restores its military arsenal, the continuation of the operation, this time already aimed at the ultimate goal, that is regime change."
