Russia has a negative attitude toward increasing NATO spending

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko has stated that Russia has a very negative attitude towards NATO's plans to increase defense spending. According to the diplomat, Russia will continue to take measures to ensure its security.

"If this decision is made, it will lead to the transition of the economies of NATO member states (in particular, European) to a military path, to the detriment of the social well-being of their citizens. This will accelerate the process of militarization of the European Union, which will further worsen the security situation in Europe and the world," he noted in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to the deputy minister, they will continue to take all measures to ensure Russia's security and defense capability.

In early May, Reuters reported that NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte proposed that the alliance's member states increase defense spending to 3.5% of GDP and spend an additional 1.5% on other defense needs.
