Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said at a briefing that the Kremlin deeply regrets the new round of escalation in the Middle East.
“The Kremlin condemns and deeply regrets the US strikes on Iran,” Peskov said, noting that it now remains to be seen what happened to Iran’s nuclear facilities and whether there is a radiation threat.
Peskov assured that Trump had not informed Putin of his intention to strike Iran. Speaking about US statements about the possibility of a regime change in Iran, Peskov said that the fate of the country’s leadership should be decided only by the people, not by third countries.
Referring to possible Russian assistance to Iran, the Kremlin spokesman said:
“Russian assistance to Iran will depend on what Tehran needs.”
