Axios reports, citing four sources, that the White House is discussing a possible meeting this week between US envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
The meeting is said to be aimed at negotiating a nuclear deal and ending the war between Israel and Iran.
No final agreement has been reached on the meeting, but the newspaper reports that it is an effort by US President Trump to move away from war and return to a deal.
“A meeting with the Iranians this week is being discussed,” a US official confirmed to Axios. The meeting could be a turning point in the question of whether the US will join the war to destroy Iran’s nuclear program, the newspaper reports militarily.
