An unknown person drove a car into Liverpool football club fans who were celebrating the team's championship in the English Premier League.
27 people were taken to the hospital, and another 20 received treatment at the scene. Among the injured are 4 children, one of whom was seriously injured. An adult was also seriously injured.
The incident is not being treated as a terrorist attack and is considered an isolated incident; media reports quoting a city police spokesman.
The 53-year-old driver of the car has been arrested. According to a police statement, he is a white British man who lives in one of Liverpool's districts.
A witness told The Guardian that people began to knock on the car's windows, then smash them, after which the driver panicked and hit the gas pedal, running over one person and hitting others.
Footage from the scene shows police trying to cordon off the scene, but witnesses pulled the driver out of the car and tried to drag him back with their feet.
The British Prime Minister said he had discussed the incident with the mayor of Liverpool.
