Ilham Aliyev addressed the conference participants on the so-called “Western Azerbaijani” population organized in Turkey.
According to him, this issue will not disappear from Azerbaijan’s agenda until the return of “Western Azerbaijanis” has taken place, and this desire does not mean territorial claims against Armenia.
“I would like to emphasize in particular that the desire of Western Azerbaijanis to return does not mean territorial claims against Armenia, and Armenia should refrain from presenting this desire in this form. This issue will not be removed from Azerbaijan’s agenda until the return is carried out. Of course, security guarantees should also be provided to Western Azerbaijanis returning to their homeland,” Aliyev’s message reads.
