China's Ministry of Commerce announced on May 18 that it is imposing anti-dumping duties of up to 74.9% on imports of POM copolymers from the United States, the European Union, Japan, and Taiwan.
POM copolymers are engineering plastics that can partially replace metals (such as copper and zinc) and are used in auto parts, electronics, and medical devices.
The move follows sharp tariff hikes by the United States on Chinese electric vehicles and chips in May.
Tariff rates by country
- USA: up to 74.9%
- EU: 34.5%
- Japan: 35.5%,
exception: Asahi Kasei Corp: 24.5% - Taiwan: total: 32.6%
Formosa Plastics: 4%
Polyplastics Taiwan: 3.8%
The ministry announced the preliminary investigation results in January, confirming dumping and imposing temporary measures.
