Significant changes in the Canadian government

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced significant cabinet changes on Tuesday, including appointing a new foreign minister.

Carney, who replaced Justin Trudeau earlier this year and won the recent election, named Anita Anand as foreign minister, replacing Mélanie Joly, now industry minister. Anand previously served as defense minister.

François-Philippe Champagne remains finance minister, while Dominique LeBlanc continues to lead Canada-U.S. trade amid escalating trade tensions.

Upon taking office, Carney stressed his determination to counter the aggressive actions of U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration against Canada.

“Canadians voted for this new government with a clear mandate to forge a new economic and security relationship with the United States and build a stronger economy for all Canadians,” Carney said.
