Since leaving the White House, former US President Joe Biden has given his first exclusive interview to the BBC.
Biden has said the Trump administration's pressure on Ukraine to cede territory to Russia is a "modern appeasement policy."
Biden said Russian President Vladimir Putin considers Ukraine part of Russia and "anyone who thinks he's going to stop" if Ukraine cedes territory as part of a peace deal is "just a fool."
Asked whether he had provided enough support to Kyiv to win the war, Biden said: "We gave them everything they needed to preserve their independence, and we were prepared to respond more aggressively if Putin acted again."
Biden expressed concern about the breakdown in US-European relations under Donald Trump's presidency. He said this would "change the modern history of the world." "Europe will lose confidence in America's resolve and leadership." European leaders, he said, "are asking questions like, what do we do now? Can we rely on the United States? Will they support us?"
