The Conclave will begin today. What report was presented to the Cardinals?

The conclave to elect a new pope will begin today in the Sistine Chapel. Cardinals will gather in the chapel, isolated from the outside world, to choose the new leader of the Catholic Church.

However, some groups attempted to influence the opinions of the 133 cardinals involved in the election. The cardinals are allowed to bring written materials with them, and before the conclave, they receive a book detailing information about their fellow cardinals. The message of the book is quite clear.

The book titled "Report of the College of Cardinals" presents biographical information on approximately 40 candidates, highlighting their positions on several key issues, including the blessing of same-sex couples, the ordination of women as deacons, and the Church's teachings on contraception. The book's central message advocates for the election of a pope who will lead the Church in a direction that diverges from the reforms initiated by Pope Francis.

While the report is available online, it has also been published in a large-format paperback edition.

However, two church lawyers told CNN that the report is biased and intended to sway the conclave in favor of candidates opposed to Pope Francis's policies. For instance, Cardinal Mario Grech of Malta, who is leading a significant reform process within the Roman Catholic Church, is described in the report as a "controversial" figure. In contrast, American Cardinal Raymond Burke, known for criticizing Pope Francis, is lauded in the report.
