An uninvited guest from space: A new interstellar object has entered the solar system

EarthSky reports that for the third time in the solar system, a space object has been discovered that originated outside its boundaries. It has been named A11pl3Z.

The object is most likely a comet or asteroid. Currently, it is faintly visible. When it approaches the Sun at its closest, it will move at a speed of approximately 68 km / s.

The object has already crossed the orbit of Jupiter. According to forecasts, in October 2025, it will pass closest to the Sun and also enter the orbit of Mars. According to astronauts, the object does not pose a threat to Earth, even when it is close to the Sun.

A11pl3Z is the third interstellar object discovered in the solar system. Before that, Oumuamua, discovered in 2017, and Comet Borisov, discovered in 2019, were known.
