China is sending AI satellites into space

Xinhua news agency reported that China has launched the first 12 of its 2,800 artificial intelligence satellites into space.

The Long March 2D rocket was launched from the Jiuquan Space Center. According to the China Aerospace Corporation, all the satellites have been successfully put into orbit.

It is planned to create a space cable system that will provide real-time data processing in orbit, increasing the efficiency of satellite data processing and promoting the application of artificial intelligence in space.

In the final stage, this system will have a total computing power of up to 1,000 petaflops (PFlops). The first satellites launched currently provide a capacity of 5 PFlops and a data storage capacity of 30 terabytes. They are equipped with artificial intelligence computer nodes and inter-satellite communication facilities.

Zhejiang Lab aims to put more than 50 computing satellites into orbit by the end of the year.
