The Uzbekistan national team has qualified for the World Cup for the first time.
In the penultimate group stage of the qualifying round, the team drew away with the UAE, which was enough to qualify for the World Cup.
Thus, Uzbekistan, which finished second in its group after Iran, became the first Central Asian country to qualify for the World Cup.
Uzbekistan has one more match in the qualifying tournament: on June 10, the team will host the Qatari team in Tashkent. However, this match will already be symbolic for the Uzbeks - the 2026 World Cup qualification is already in their pocket.
The head coach of the Uzbekistan national team is Timur Kapadze, who is of Meskhetian Turkish descent.
It should be recalled that the 2026 World Cup will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Eight teams from Asia (AFC) will participate, three more than in previous world championships.
