Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan sent a message on the occasion of May 9:
"Dear people, dear citizens of the Republic of Armenia,
Today, we celebrate the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet Union and the Western Allies in World War II. That war broke out due to the Nazi (fascist) ideology established in Germany and several other allied countries, the key content of which was that one nation or one group of nations is superior to another or others. And many nations and states came together to prove the opposite and won.
The Armenian people also contributed to that victory in the armies of the Soviet Union, the Western Allies, and underground resistance groups. Today, we pay tribute to all of our compatriots. On this day, the world also faces the danger of Nazism, fascism, totalitarianism, and all its manifestations, which are contrary to the freedom and happiness of the individual, the people, and the state, whose key goal is to dominate, provoke wars and limit freedoms.
The Republic of Armenia is taking a different path—freedom, democracy, and peace. This is not an easy path at all, but it is worth taking. To entirely pass that path and reach an irreversible destination, conviction, faith, prudence, and consistency are necessary. To take that path, bold, sincere, and complete self-reflection is needed, as well as the ability to read and study one's history and to read and perceive the messages addressed to us from our history.
In recent years, I have devoted much of my activity to discussions with the Republic of Armenia's citizens about Real Armenia's ideology. This is a critical process. The ideology of the real Armenia is the result of reading and rereading our history; the ideology of the real Armenia is the result of reading the messages of the historical Armenia addressed to us, which tells us: do not follow my path but focus on the issue of building freedom, happiness, prosperity in the country of our dreams, the Republic of Armenia, and passing that happy state from generation to generation. Today, we have that opportunity and are obliged to realize that opportunity.
Today, we also have the opportunity to contribute to the peaceful and prosperous future of our region. The draft Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan has been agreed upon and is awaiting signing, and we will follow that path. Our region has earned the right to live in peace and prosperity, and it should be so.
Despite all internal and external provocations, there will be no war between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan; there will be peace.
Glory to the martyrs, and long live the Republic of Armenia.
