35-million-year-old cockroach found in amber

A unique find of completely preserved ancient cockroach was discovered at the Kaliningrad Amber Plant of the Rostec State Corporation in the Kaliningrad Region of Russia, according to the company’s press service.

“Amber was discovered at the Kaliningrad Amber Plant, inside of which an ancient cockroach was completely preserved. According to experts, the age of the insect is about 35-40 million years. The find will become one of the main lots of the international amber auction, which will be held on August 2 as part of the eighth international amber forum AmberForum’25,” the statement says.

The amber with the ancient insect was discovered during manual sorting and weighs only 7 grams. The cockroach of the Blattodea order was preserved in a piece of beeswax-colored amber, the dimensions of which are 41 x 21 millimeters.
