Following Pope Francis's death on April 21, Edward Berger's thriller "Conclave" has seen a sharp increase in viewership.
The film follows the events that unfold after the pope's death and the struggles of the cardinals who succeed him.
The film won the BAFTA Award for Best Film this year and was nominated for eight Oscars. It is available on multiple platforms.
On April 20, the Conclave was watched for 1.8 million minutes; the next day, it was watched for 6.9 million minutes, a 283% increase.
The Conclave awards campaign coincided with the pope's hospitalization for kidney failure in late February. The cast, including Ralph Fiennes, John Lithgow, and Stanley Tucci, were frequently asked about Francis' health. Italian actors Isabella Rossellini and Sergio Castellitto were particularly vocal in their praise and concern for Francis.
